The Major Players
Google Acquires JotSpot
Yesterday JotSpot announced on their blog their acquisition by Google.
As a result of the purchase JotSpot has temporarily closed off new customer registrations while it is transferred over to Google's software architecture. If you are an existing user, rest assured you will continue to have uninterrupted access to your account.
JotSpot, a Wiki editor, with 30,000 paying customers and 300,000 free users, brings to the table spreadsheet, calendar, and photo gallery modules. While they are unable to disclose plans for the future, I am sure the new addition will see a future with many further advances within Google Docs, driving Google closer to becoming a top Microsoft Office competitor.
Ask Teams up with Lycos According to Reuters , Ask has reached an agreement with Lycos to supply search and sponsored listings. Lycos is the "fifth most popular US Web Portal".
The deal will have Ask provide web, image, and zoom search for the Lycos network. Asks' pay per click ads will also start appearing in Lycos as part of the deal. by Scott Van Achte - Senior SEO
